Looking for a Newspaper in Santa Monica

I just moved to Santa Monica and used to get the LA Times delivered at home. I didn’t know if they delivered to Santa Monica, so I looked into the Santa Monica Daily Press. The Press just doesn’t include the amount of information that the Los Angeles Times does. However, I finally found a great Santa Monica Newspaper that includes all the news I need – and they deliver everyday!

The LA Times Newspaper is a really comprehensive newspaper and I really like the online interaction as well. I have always gone to the Los Angeles Times website for my news, so it was only natural to have them delivery the newspaper to me in Santa Monica as well!.

A Night Out With Rex Lee : King of His Element

<Stephanie Diani for The New York Times>

NO EDAMAME Rex Lee, center, at dinner at Koi in Los Angeles, where he gave friends a crash course in Japanese cuisine

.

PAPARAZZI mobbed the actor Rex Lee when he arrived at Koi restaurant one balmy Los Angeles evening.

They were waiting for Rod Stewart. But Mr. Lee gamely took their impromptu questions, talking about recent plot turns on “Entourage,” the HBO series on which he has a continuing role.

“Usually,” he said, deadpan, as he headed inside, “I don’t tell the media I’m coming.”

Seated at the head of a table decorated with an orchid and a bottle of low-sodium soy sauce, Mr. Lee played host to six friends, most of whom he worked with when he was an assistant to a commercial casting director. After dinner, everyone would walk to Mr. Lee’s nearby condominium to watch the latest prerecorded episode of “Project Runway.”

After four years of playing Lloyd on “Entourage,” the frazzled, gay Chinese-American assistant who suffers the homophobic and racist insults spit out by his manic boss, Ari Gold (Jeremy Piven), you might think Mr. Lee would be tired of melodrama. But that’s exactly what draws him to “Project Runway.”

“You get to see so many unbalanced characters,” he said, laughing and covering his mouth with his hand.

Mr. Lee went on to describe himself as a “short, dumpy Korean who doesn’t have the body for fashion,” but this evening he was spiffily turned out in black shoes, black pants and a black short-sleeve shirt with a bold, Marimekko-like design.

After ordering a tangerine cosmopolitan (“It looks like Tang and vodka,” said Alex Quijano, an actor friend, when the drink was delivered), Mr. Lee asked the waiter to bring to the table signature dishes, including yellowtail carpaccio, Kobe beef and crab rolls.

When a bowl of edamame was set down, Mr. Lee made a face. “I read that when men eat that stuff, they get man boobs,” he said. “Why take that chance?”

Moments later, Rod Stewart strolled in with a skyscraper blonde and joined the party at the next table to celebrate the birthday of Mr. Stewart’s son Sean, who was recently featured on “Celebrity Rehab With Dr. Drew.” Mr. Lee barely noticed; he was busy giving Bob Brunson, also an actor, a lesson out of Japanese Cuisine for Dummies.

“First you mush the green stuff up in the brown stuff,” Mr. Lee said, referring to the wasabi and soy sauce.

After a two-and-a-half-hour dinner, Mr. Lee’s entourage regrouped at the modern three-bedroom condo he recently bought. A flat-screen TV hung over a pigeon-colored mantel, and a DVD player sat on a cardboard box. In place of a couch, Mr. Lee had thoughtfully spread out a green blanket on which he placed, in even rows, like checkers, small round pillows for his guests.

While his friends kicked off their shoes and made snide remarks about the episode’s surf-wear challenge, Mr. Lee ran back and forth from the kitchen, serving slices of a majestic layer cake and taking cups of coffee and espresso to his guests.

“Don’t worry about me,” Mr. Lee said. “I’ll watch the show later.”
